BANFF – A Canadian Rockies Adventure

Things to do in Banff

The lovely resort town of Banff will be the start of our Canadian Rockies adventure. Banff is not only located within the Banff National Park but is also the first national park in Canada as well. Yesterday, we landed in Calgary, Alberta in Canada which is the 7th out of 10 Canadian Provinces that we have visited. From there we are heading west for another 88 miles to our destination.

You know that you are way north with the longer days since the June Sunset was about 10:02 pm with sunrise being about 5:27 am.

The town is 4590 to 5350 feet above sea level. It has a lot of small-town village charm. We were fortunate that of our three days, we had nice sunny weather with a high temperature of about 57 degrees and a low of about 45.

VISITING THE NEARBY LAKES:

We arranged for a nice tour through Viator. This would be a half-day visit to nearby Lake Louise and Lake Moraine which are picture-perfect lakes that lie underneath majestic mountains. Our tour guide/driver Buck proved to be one great storyteller.

After the tour, we went on our own to the Gondola, which is a cable car ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. You will have outstanding panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies and will get a great aerial view of the town of Banff. The mountain is 7486 feet above sea level and the ride is about 8 minutes. At the summit, you will find some nice observation decks and dining options. I would check out the dining options Please click on the above Viator banner for additional great experiences.

VISITING THE FAIRMOUNT BANFF SPRINGS HOTEL AND RESORT:

Close by is the Fairmount Banff Springs Hotel and Resort https://www.fairmont.com/banff-springs. Sometimes it is called Castle in the Rockies, it has been serving guests since 1888. You can book through Booking.com. This is definitely a world-class resort where nothing is spared. We had a light meal there in their Stock Restaurant. Really enjoyed that meal.
