Bucket List

The Bucket List

Last Revised: 11.15.23

Every traveler probably has some sort of bucket list. Sometimes formal. Sometimes not. We all like to see and absorb as much as we can. I have listed mine. Many of these are very well known. Some not so. It is good to see as much as we can. However we should try to absorb its essence.

Still on the List:

Antarctica

This is probably the ultimate bucket list trip. It is very expensive to reach and also very remote. Hope to get there. Just have to bite the bullet.

New Zealand

This is another remote location. Beautiful landscapes. Top notch vineyards. Wonderful weather.

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

I was nearby in Bangkok. However, time was running short and I missed the opportunity to visit. Maybe, I can work it in with a trip to Viet Nam.

Ben Franklin Bridge, Philadelphia, PA

Funny that I live nearby. I would like to cross on foot. Could be interesting. This is a recent addition to my b-list.

Visit Accomplished and Removed from the List (Selected Listings)

Machu Pichu, Peru

That legendary lost city high up in the Andes. An out of the world experience.

Aerial view of Dubai

Dubai, UAE

Visited the Burj Khalifa Still the world’s tallest building at 2772 feet. Almost a half mile high.

The Petra ruins entrance

Petra, Jordan

Another lost city in the deserts of Jordan. It probably dates from the 5th century BC. It is famous for its pink sandstone structures.

Acropolis (Athens, Greece)

We climbed up to the top on a very hot day. That is a 490-foot rise from the bottom. It was well worth it.

Sydney, Australia

World’s best New Year’s Eve party. Imagine the harbor, Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, all play a part of a spectacular evening along with a good part of the population of Sydney lining the shores and making a lot of noise. Was there in 2002 and would definitely like to return.

Iguassu Falls (Where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet)

This is not the tallest waterfall. However it is the widest (about 1.8 miles in width). It contains 275 different vertical drops with heights ranging from 162 feet and 269 feet

Eiffel tower with fireworks behind

Bastille Day, Paris, France

The world’s best parade and fireworks display. The day starts off with an impressive military parade down the Champs Elysees. Also, there is a big French Air Force flyover. Many people go to the Champs de Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and enjoy a picnic along with free concerts in the evening. Concluding the evening at about 11pm is an unbelievable fireworks display. The best I have ever seen and I have seen many.

Napa Valley, California

If you are a wine enthusiast, you are definitely going to have a good time. Another activity is to take a hot air balloon ride floating over the vineyards. This is quite an experience. The ride is so quiet and calm.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India

Definitely, an iconic building.

Monaco

Playground of the rich and the rich wannabes In Monaco, you are in a spectacular setting by the Mediterranean, What a nice atmosphere. A great place to fantasize.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

World’s most picturesque city. You have a spectacular harbor, with the Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado Mountain) statue (125 feet in height) and Sugarloaf (Pao de Acucar) mountain (369 feet in height). The view from these landmarks is an exceptional experience.

Bangkok, Thailand

World’s most colorful city. You have a great combination of the traditional and the modern. The city is both laced with canals and modern metros. Colorful night life produces quite the party atmosphere. The people are the friendliest that you could meet.

Couple posing in front of Pyramids and Sphinx

Pyramids and Sphinx, Egypt

Another icon that we visited. They have been standing for an estimated 4500 years. For a comparison, Cleopatra lived about 2100 years ago. When she was alive the Pyramids and Sphinx were about 2400 years old. The Great Pyramid of Giza that we see in the background is 449.5 feet. It was the tallest structure in the world for many centuries.
